Grant from Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein supported the development of the botanical garden in the CzechRepublic.
The Botanical Garden in Tabor, which is the second oldest garden in the CzechRepublic, is now implementing the project called the Botanical Garden – a place for meeting, a place for learning, a place for resting. The project was supported by 25,200.00 € from the grant provided by Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway within the financial mechanism called EHP and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism through the Civil Society Development Foundation, and is co-financed by the town of Tábor with the amount of 3,525.00 €. The project is implemented by non-profit-making organization (civil association) called the Botanical Garden Protection Association in Tábor.
The aim of the project is to improve the environment for citizens and tourists in the town of Tábor, and to offer environmental education in the Botanical Garden which is a part of the College and Secondary School of Agriculture. The Project involves building a quality and safe place which is believed to be used not only as a common park or an ornamental garden but also as a place to provide a lot of functions like environmental, ecological, cultural, historical, relaxing, aesthetic and protective ones. The main part of the project is focused on the renewal of unpaved paths in the arboretum of the Botanical Garden, planting 1,300 plants and tree species, completion of the municipal mobile equipment, arrangement of a few parts of the Botanical Garden, creation of new expositions, upgrade of the information system and construction of aviaries for handicapped birds. The Project covers costs on materials and services that we are not able to provide by ourselves. The rest of work (reconstruction of paths, expositions, planting and others) is completed with own forces for free.
The Botanical Garden was founded in 1866. Its area is 2.5 hectares, and since 2002 the Garden has been under reconstruction. This project will significantly help to achieve a lot of objectives. In the past, the Botanical Garden used to belong to the School only. However, we have been trying to open this historic landmark to the public, so the garden can serve the above mentioned purposes. In order to achieve this objective, we will have to implement many other projects.
I believe the citizens of the donor countries who will visit the Czech Republic will come to the town of Tábor to see the Botanical Garden, the development of which was supported by the grant from Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein. Thank you very much.
